A walk in the sun: it’s time to check on your home’s exterior

Congrats! You’ve made it through another winter. The sun is starting to shine, birds are chirping, plants are starting to bloom… With spring around the corner, now is the perfect time to inspect the outside of your home thoroughly. Here's what you should look for when inspecting your home's exterior:

  1. Check for Roof Damage: Start by inspecting your roof for any signs of damage or wear and tear. Look for missing or cracked shingles, damage to the flashing (the thin layer of metal that directs water), or any other signs of damage that could cause water leakage into your home. If you notice any issues, call a professional roofer to assess the damage and recommend the necessary repairs.

  2. Inspect the Gutters: Clogged gutters can lead to water damage, which can be expensive to repair. Check the gutters for leaves, debris, or other blockages that can prevent water from flowing freely. Check out our blog on how to clean your gutters.

  3. Look for Water Damage: Inspect the exterior of your home for signs of water damage, such as stains on the siding, paint peeling, or mold growth. Address any water damage issues immediately to prevent further damage to your home.

  4. Check the Foundation: Inspect the foundation of your home for any cracks, holes, or signs of settling. The earlier you address any foundation issues the more you can prevent structural damage to your home.

  5. Inspect the Siding: Check the siding of your home for any signs of damage, such as cracks, holes, or warping. If you notice any damage, repair or replace the siding to prevent water from seeping into your home.

  6. Inspect Windows and Doors: Check the caulking around your windows and doors for any signs of damage. Replace any damaged caulking to prevent air leaks, which can increase your energy bills.

  7. Check the Landscape: Inspect your landscape for any signs of overgrown trees or bushes that could damage your home's exterior. Trim back any overgrown vegetation to prevent damage to your home.

By inspecting your home's exterior regularly, you can identify any issues and address them promptly, which can save you money in the long run. If you're not comfortable inspecting your home's exterior yourself, consider hiring a professional to do it for you.
