Clean your gutters
Spring is here, and that means it's time to kick out all the leaves that have fallen over the winter. Gutters play a crucial role in directing water away from your home's foundation, but they can become clogged with leaves, twigs, and other debris, which can cause water damage to your home. While many services will come clean your gutters, its possible to tackle this on your own!
Gather Your Tools: Before you start cleaning your gutters, gather the necessary tools, including a ladder, work gloves, a trowel or scoop, a bucket or bag to collect debris, and a garden hose.
Safety First: It's essential to practice ladder safety when cleaning your gutters. Make sure the ladder is secure and on a stable surface. Always maintain three points of contact on the ladder and have someone hold the bottom of the ladder for added stability.
Start at the Downspout: Begin cleaning your gutters at the downspout. Use your trowel or scoop to remove any debris and place it in your bucket or bag. Once you've removed as much debris as possible, use your garden hose to flush out any remaining debris.
Work Your Way Along the Gutter: Once you've cleared the downspout, move along the gutter, removing debris and flushing out any remaining debris with your garden hose. Be sure to pay attention to any clogged areas or areas where water is not draining properly.
Check for Damage: While you're cleaning your gutters, be on the lookout for any damage, such as holes, cracks, or rust spots. Address any damage promptly to prevent further damage to your gutters.
Clean up: Once you've finished cleaning your gutters, make sure to clean up any debris that has fallen on the ground. Dispose of the debris properly, and store your tools in a safe place.
And just like that your gutters are primed for all the April showers ready to bring May flowers!
